Warren B. Murphy
1934-2015

Warren Burton Murphy, award-winning author of more than two hundred books, entered into eternal rest in his home on the morning of September 4th, 2015. He was 81 years old.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he worked in politics until creating the Destroyer series of books with Richard Sapir in 1964. Winner of a dozen national awards, including two Edgar awards and two Shamus awards, Murphy's writing spanned many genres, from action-adventure to political thrillers to screenplays (The Eiger Sanction, Lethal Weapon 2), and was a significant influence on many young writers.
He is survived by his five children-Deirdre Abbotts of Westport CT, Megan Murphy of Virginia Beach VA, Brian Murphy of Virginia Beach VA, Ardath Hering of Secaucus NJ, and Devin Murphy of Virginia Beach VA-as well as his six grandchildren: Adam, Samantha, Morgan, Adelaide, Thomas, and Tyler.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel on Virginia Beach Boulevard Saturday, September 12th from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Condolences may be offered to the family at:
